Brief Introduction

T.C. Chang is a social-cultural geographer with research interests in tourism and urbanisation in Asia. His specific research interests include: arts, culture and hertage in cities; urban tourism; gentrification and urban redvelopment; and tourism development in Asia and Critical Asian Tourism Studies (CATS). He received his Ph.D. from McGill University (Montreal, Canada) in 1997 and has been an Associate Professor at NUS since 2003.  A/P Chang was Deputy Head of the Department of Geography (2006-2007); Assistant Dean (Alumni Relations, Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences, NUS; 2008-2010), and Vice Dean (External Relations and Student Life, June 2010-December 2015). He was also Deputy Director of NUS Global Relations Office (April 2017 - July 2018).  He was awarded the NUS Oustanding Educator Award 2006, the FacultyTeaching Excellence Awards in 2007/08, 2019/20, and 2021/22, and was placed in the Annual Teaching Excellence Award Honour Roll in March 2023. He is the author of Joo Chiat: A Living Legacy (with Lily Kong; National Archives of Singapore 2001), and the co-editor of two books on Asian tourism -- Interconnected Worlds: Tourism in Southeast Asia (with Peggy Teo and Ho K.C; Routledge, 2001) and Asia On Tour. Exploring the Rise of Asian Tourism (with Tim Winter and Peggy Teo, Routledge, 2009).
