Brief Introduction

I am Senior Lecturer of Thai as a foreign language at the Centre for Language Studies (CLS). Currently, I am Assistant Director of the CLS. Joining NUS since 2000, as a pioneer member of the Thai Language Programme, I served as the Programme Convenor in 2010-2022, supervising, coordinating, and teaching Thai language courses at all levels, from beginners, intermediate to advanced proficiency levels. In addition, I serve as the Consultant and Coordinator for Thai External Courses, under the CLS External Language Programme, offering a wide range of Thai courses, Thai 1-Thai 9, Thai for business purposes, and customised courses. I am awarded the Honour Roll for the NUS Annual Teaching Excellence Award (ATEA) for 2023-2027.

I have completed my doctoral degree in language education, from the Graduate School of Education, the University of Western Australia. My research interest focuses on intercultural education, curriculum development and teaching methodologies, teaching materials development, and technology-enhanced language learning.

I am on the Editorial Board of e-FLT, Electronic Journal of Foreign Language Teaching, https://e-flt.nus.edu.sg/.

Current Research

My recent research project looks at the development of intercultural competence in learners of Thai as a foreign language. The project is funded by the Centre for Development of Teaching and Learning (CDTL), NUS. I am also involved in a study on global citizenship and mobility, in collaborating with Dr Yi’En Cheng, Asian Research Institute (ARI).

In addition, I have been exploring the impact of in-country language immersions on foreign language learners’ intercultural development, ciritcal cultural awareness and identity development. The project is funded by an MOE Tier 1 research grant, in collaborating with my colleages from the CLS, A/P Chan Wai Meng, A/P Chin Kwee Nyet, Dr Chan Daniel, Ms Chi Seo Won and Ms Yukiko Saito.
