Sofia holds a BA in Law from the National University of Mexico(UNAM)and a Masters of Laws in Intellectual Property and Technology Law from the National University of Singapore(NUS). She has specialized studies in Penalty Treatment of Intellectual Property Rights from the National Institute of Criminal Sciences of Mexico(INACIPE) and a Diploma in Banking and Credit from the Technological Institute of Mexico (ITAM).
Most recently she has been the Legal Consultant and Senior Founding Partner for CSM Trade Pte Ltd, a Trading and Consulting firm in Singapore focused in linking Latin America and Singapore in terms of Trade, Business Management and Financing.
With 20 years of experience as Corporate Lawyer specialized in the areas of Intellectual Property and Trust, and since she arrived in Singapore in the year 2000, she has participated with different legal firms in the areas of Intellectual Property, Copyrights, e-government and Business Development, supporting, among others, the Trade Commission of Mexico for South East Asia, with a continuous training and development.
While in the National Institute of Author Rights (INDA) in Mexico, she was in charge of the Public Management Administration Programme INDA to comply with the requirements stated at the North- American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA)
She has tought at the National Institute of Political Sciences, the Political Sciences and Public Administration Faculty of UNAM, at the National Institute of Public Administration and now at the National University of Singapore.
Her interests include Intellectual Property Protection in ICT, Privacy Policies, e- government and Public Management Policies.
